Kirsi Sunila-Putilin has been working as a legal counsel at FICORA, Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority, since 2000.
During recent years she has worked with the legal questions concerning .fi domain names especially handling domain name disputes. She has also been involved with the development of the Finnish Domain name Act in co-operation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications as the law became part of the new Information Society Code. Lately she has been in charge of a project to renew FICORA’s domain name regulation that has an emphasis on security requirements to registrars. She has been co-operating internationally representing .fi at Nordic, CENTR (Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries) and ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) meetings.
Earlier she has specialized in the area of protection of privacy and information security in electronic communications co-operating with various stakeholders such as telecom operators, consumer and privacy authorities, law enforcement and emergency services authorities. She has also been involved with electronic signatures and certificates.
Kirsi has a Master of Laws degree from the University of Helsinki and she has performed the duties of a lower court judge at the District Court of Tuusula.
